Hello Parents and Students,

Due to a high number of positive COVID-19 case counts, and approximately 260 individuals in quarantine (including key faculty and staff members) we are closing Rocky Mountain Junior High for two weeks beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, December 9, 2020. Tomorrow will be a day for teachers to prepare for online instruction. Actual online instruction will begin Thursday, December 10, 2020. Students will return to school for in-person instruction on Monday, January 4, 2020 following the holiday break. Online instruction will not be provided during the holiday break (December 23 - January 3) and the final day of online instruction will be Tuesday, December 22, 2020.

An effective and safe educational experience cannot be facilitated at this time due to the large proportion of students and staff who are at home. This closure will help provide a safe instructional experience during the next two weeks. To review the specifics regarding what leads to a closure, click here for the Utah Department of Health manual (page 95).

During the closure, the building will be disinfected and sanitized according to our Safe Weber Framework.https://wsd.net/covid-19/news/safe-weber

A couple of important items to know with regards to this soft closure:

  • This is not considered a quarantine for all students in the school. This is a preventative measure to help slow the spread of COVID-19 by reducing the number of people in the school. Any students who have been quarantined to this point by the Weber-Morgan Health Department are still considered quarantined until their release date. If your child is ever exposed at school to someone who has tested positive for COVID, we will contact you directly regarding the quarantine requirements.
  • During the soft closure, all students are expected to attend and participate with their classes during the designated times. This should be done via Google Meet with the teachers. Check their Canvas sites for more information. We are going to follow the schedule below each day:

1st period: 8:00am- 8:25am

2nd period: 8:35am-9:00am

3rd period: 9:10am-9:35am

4th period: 9:45am- 10:10am

5th period: 10:20am -10:45am

6th period:11:05am-11:30am

7th period: 11:35am-12:00pm

  • During this school closure, our volleyball team and NAL (National Academic League) will continue to practice and participate in games as planned.
  • Those students attending Project Lead The Way Classes will participate with their classes through Canvas. PLTW buses will not be running.
  • Students who test positive for Covid-19 during the soft closure should still report this outcome to the school for tracking purposes. Accurate and timely reporting will help us make prudent and safe decisions going forward. We are still conducting contact tracing and expect to have additional students and staff placed on quarantine. We also anticipate that we will receive additional positive COVID cases.
  • Communication is going to be key with your teachers. If there are questions or concerns, ask early and get help. Teachers are available from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm for individual online meetings as needed, by appointment.
  • During this soft closure, do not consider this a “Work at your own pace” situation. Be diligent about engaging in your Google Meets and completing the assignments. We want you all to continue the second quarter on the right academic path.
  • Our boys basketball tryouts will still take place tomorrow, December 9th as planned. Any student currently in quarantine will have an opportunity to try out once their quarantine has ended.

7th grade: 6:00-7:00 am

8th grade: 2:00-3:00 pm

9th grade: 3:00-4:00 pm

  • The Seminary building will also be closed as part of the soft closure.
  • The building will be closed on Wednesday, December 9th, until 9:30am. Students who need to access their school supplies for online learning may access the building after 9:30am. Visits to get supplies should be a quick in and out.
  • We will continue to work closely with officials from the Weber Morgan Health Department in monitoring this situation and we will provide updates as needed.

We would like to remind everyone to continue to be vigilant in following current health guidelines by wearing face coverings, practicing good hygiene and physically distancing from others to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We look forward to getting our students back to school. Please continue to do your part as we move through this soft closure.
