Here are some things that hopefully will ease your fears regarding the Mathematics Common Core which is set to be implemented this fall.
Any current 7th grade student now enrolled in Algebra will never take a common core class. Their path will be 8th - Geometry, 9th - Intermediate Algebra, 10th - Pre Calculus, 11th - Calculus.
Any current 8th grade student now enrolled in Geometry will never take a common core class. Their path is the same as above.
All current 9th grade students will never take a common core class. See a member of the math department for additional information.
All current 6th grade students will either take Math 7 or Math 7 Honors next year. The Honors track will be much more rigorous and cover topics in much greater detail than Math 7. A student can move up or down the following year, depending on their level of success (Honors 7 to Math 8 or Math 7 to Honors 8).
All current 7th grade students will either take Algebra or Algebra "A" next year. The Algebra course will be much more rigorous and cover topics in much greater detail than Algebra "A". Students will be placed in either Secondary Math I or Secondary Math I Honors at the end of their 8th grade year.
All current 8th grade students should take either Secondary Math I or Secondary Math I Honors. The Honors track will be much more rigorous and cover topics in much greater detail than Secondary Math I. The Honors course will also introduce topics in Pre Calculus.
Students must successfully complete Secondary Math I Honors in order to enroll in any future Honors course.
